Happy 4th of July America

To celebrate America’s anniversary of independence, I’ve launched a new look for TGFRC. New colors, better site navigation, more features and a slide show on the Home Page are several of the changes.

Four years ago on July 25, 2008 (my mother’s 100th birthday), I pulled the original TGFRC website (2000-2005) from the archives and upgraded it from basic static pages to the newest version of WordPress, a popular blogging program.

Although that website served us well, with the newer technologies that have emerged there is so much more I can do now that it became time to change again.

Everyone knows the story of the shoemaker’s kids going barefoot – my version is the website programmer not keeping his own sites updated. Every time I went into TGFRC I knew I wanted to make changes but didn’t ever seem to have time or desire together, so ended up doing nothing.

Recently I was invited to help with a new WordPress site for a small local business.  The theme they had installed was a much later version than the one I had been using. The best way for me to learn new software is to dive right in and start doing. So using TGFRC as my development site I upgraded to the same new theme and after much tweaking, I ended up with the new look.

The first New Feature I added is something I call Quick Notes. You will see the Notes displayed in the middle of the Home Page and a link on the navigation menu to submit your own.

I hope you enjoy the new site as much as I am,

Michael F Gribbin
